ASHFORD ECE 343 ECE343 WEEK 4 DISCUSSION 2
ECE 343 Week 4 Discussion 2 Young Children and Technology (Ashford)
Young Children and Technology [CLO: 1]. 1st Post Due by Day 3. In today’s technology-driven society where it is not uncommon to see a baby or toddler using an iPad, many early childhood experts agree that certain kinds of technology are not developmentally appropriate for children under the age of 3. For this discussion, begin by completing the Technology Sort Activity found in Week Four of your online course, where you will determine the appropriateness of different types of technology for different ages. Then, in your post:
• Discuss your experience with the sorting activity (e.g. did anything surprise you? Was there anything you disagreed with? etc.)
• Describe the effect of technology on infant/toddler cognitive and social-emotional development. • Identify two to three appropriate ways to utilize technology with young children and two to three
inappropriate ways.
Be sure to support your statements with evidence from the textbook.

Guided Response: Review the posts of several peers. Respond to at least two of your classmates as if you are a parent who allows your 2-year-old to watch television and play games on an iPad for several hours a day. You feel that this use of technology is actually beneficial to your child since the shows and games are educational. Defend your position.
