Final Paper: A Case Study in Peacekeeping. Due by Day 7. Since 1945, states and international organizations have undertaken a variety of peacekeeping operations. These operations have varied in many respects, including resources spent, humanitarian need, historical context, the motivations of peacekeepers, and outcome. Throughout the course, we have examined each of these elements. You must now apply them to studying a single case of peacekeeping, much like you did in your Week Two Assignment but in far greater detail. Note, however, that you must use the cases listed below. Helpful links and resources pertaining to each of these cases can be found beneath the cases below. These resources are best viewed as a good first step to help provide you with historical context into your chosen case; they must be integrated with additional research on peacekeeping, which can include sources from previous weeks. Please use the feedback you received from your instructor on your Week Three Outline to assist you in writing this paper.
In this assignment, you will do the following:

The United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF) in Egypt, 1956-1967
In 1956, Egyptian dictator Gamal Abdel Nasser seized control of the vitally important Suez Canal, which provoked invasion by a force of Israeli, British, and French forces. The conflict led to escalating tensions between the Soviet Union and the United States, who both had vested interests in the region. Ultimately, Israeli, British, and French forces would withdraw from Egypt. To oversee their withdrawal and ensure a secure and calm Israeli- Egyptian border, the United Nations deployed UNEF in the Sinai Peninsula as a peacekeeping operation.
